Chihuahua Dog Breed

The Chihuahua is said to come from the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. They are the smallest of all breeds usually weighing three to six pounds

although some can weigh up to ten pounds. Most professional associations that show dogs prefer no more than six pounds. Because of their small

size they make perfect lap dogs.

Chihuahuas can be both long and short hair and any color combination. They are usually defined by the shape of their heads. The

Apple Heads have short noses and a round head similar to an apple. The Deer Heads have longer noses and longer heads as opposed to the Apple

Head’s short nose and round head.

Chihuahuas can be born with a soft spot on their heads called a Molera. This is when the skull on the top of their heads don’t

completely close. Most dogs will outgrow this and have perfectly formed skulls. But some chihuahuas live their whole life with a molera.

Because of this they need to be watched when playing with other dogs or small children. Since the bone isn’t completely covering the brain their

brain can be severely damaged and even cause death if hurt.

Always make sure the chihuahua has enough to eat and drink. They are prone to low blood sugar and dehydration.
