American Airlines Passenger Freaks Out Over Merry Christmas
December 25, 2014
On Tuesday a passenger waiting for a plane at the La Guardia Airport went balistic over a gate agent wishing him a Merry Christmas. He told the agent “You shouldn’t say that because not everyone celebrates Christmas”.
After the passenger boarded the plane the flight attendant also wished him a Merry Christmas. The passenger told the flight attendant the same thing – don’t say Merry Christmas. He then went on a small tirade with the other attendants and flight crew about not saying Merry Christmas.
The flight attendants tried to calm him down but ended up escorting him off the plane.
Political correctness gone awry
This is a case of political correctness gone awry. What happened to the polite respectful society we used to be as few as 20 years ago? Back then no one in their right mind would have been upset over someone wishing them a Merry Christmas. Saying Merry Christmas to someone was a greeting of cheer and a wish for happiness to the recipient. I remember saying “Merry Christmas” to a Jewish friend and him saying “and Happy Hanukkah to you, too”.
Neither one of us were offended. Why would we be? The thought never crossed our minds.
This just shows how selfish and self-centered our society has become. Don’t say anything Idon’t like or agree with or I’ll throw a fit and maybe even try to sue you. It’s saying I’m more important than you so make sure you tip-toe around me and always make me happy. There’s no caring or compassion for others anymore.
Political correctness will not work in a prideful self-centered society. How could it? Each side of the coin wants their “rights” at the expense of the other side. Gay/straight,black/white, religious/non-religious, even Democrat/Republican. They all claim you are stepping on my rights. So they get their way with the end result now stepping on the other’s rights. It’s a vicious circle that never ends. And won’t until society as a whole
learns to chill out and respect each other.
We don’t whine when someone says Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Halloween, Happy Fourth of July,Happy Labor Day, Happy Memorial Day, Happy Valentines Day, Happy New Year, etc. But the respect for another’s religious preference seems not to be tolerated anymore. The future of society as a whole looks very scary. The United States was founded on democracy and freedom of religion. If we loose this we’ve lost everything.
Next time someone says “Merry Christmas” to you smile and say “Thank you”. It just means they care.
